While preserving the original architecture, a glass structure was added that created an airlock and an ADA compliant, exterior glass clad elevator, exposing the ‘workings’ for the town children to see firsthand how an elevator works.  This is a practical solution that delights and inspires.  Also incorporated were two ADA compliant toilets, reading areas and an ADA compliant book check out.
