Robert Carl Williams Associates

Vermont Architects and Planners

ourhistory our history

Robert Carl Williams moved to Vermont in the 1960’s to follow his vision of creating an architecture that is designed fundamentally around the environment, every tree, every rock. Borrowing from the European style of building in the mountains rather than in the valleys on tillable land, Robert initiated five Vermont communities known as Hawk. Roads were planned by walking the land so there was the least amount of impact. Covenants were written for each colony to protect the homeowners by preserving the value of the land and the homes.

This philosophy is applied to the diversity of all the firm’s projects and to distant locations such as Tucson, Arizona, the Caribbean and Bermuda, with one home in the archipelago of Finland. Our work ranges from renovations and additions to new homes and commercial facilities, including historic preservations.

In 1980 Daniel Pratt joined Robert Carl Williams Associates. In 1995 Daniel became a partner in the firm and now serves as the president and CEO.

Today we recognize the importance of making homes as energy-efficient as possible. We are committed to respecting the sense of place and the elements that comprise it.

Budget is an important consideration. The architect’s task lies in composing the site, its boulders and trees, views and sunlight, with the client’s needs and objectives, all within set financial limits. The blend thus created is the basis of our firm’s architecture.

The eloquent use of form, light and space with color and texture creates an architecture that welcomes, delights and even inspires. Elevating the human spirit by enriching and caring for our environment is a worthy objective.
