WORK EXPERIENCE
Jay focuses primarily on the firm’s commercial, resort and historic preservation work. Projects at RCWA have included many projects for Stowe Mountain Resort, such as the renovation and expansion of the Cliff House Restaurant at the top of the gondola, upgrades to the The Inn at the Mountain and Toll House Conference Center, and design of the skier services level and Spruce Peak Sports retail shop at the new Spruce Camp Base Lodge. He also leads the design for the proposed new Killington Peak Lodge at the top of Killington’s gondola.
Jay has led the firm’s work on several Vermont visitor centers such as the Brandon Museum and Visitor Center at the Stephen A. Douglas House in Brandon, and a restoration of the Pinsly Train Depot in Barre, now used as a visitor center for the Vermont Granite Museum, retail shop, café and bank branch for TD Bank.
Other projects under Jay’s direction include the restoration of the Brandon Town Hall to include a new handicapped access lift to connect the main floor with the lower floor that will provide new restrooms, lobby and dressing rooms. Other restoration projects include renovations to the Brookside Stock Farm Inn, for which he helped the owner’s obtain a grant from the Vermont Division of Historic Preservation, and the adaptive use of the Old High School in Brandon for use as residences, now called Neshobe Lofts, which was featured at the annual Preservation Trust Conference in 2008 and won the use of highly competitive State Preservation Tax Credits in 2009.
Jay joined RCWA in 2005 after working six years in Prague, Czech Republic for international hotel developers bringing centuries-old buildings to new life with projects such as the proposed Ritz-Carlton Prague and residential developments in historic European buildings.
Prior to that he was a principal architect at The Burley Partnership (TBP) in Waitsfield VT where significant projects he contributed to included restoration of the Barre Opera House, the Newport Gateway Visitor Center overhanging the south edge of Lake Memphremagog, a restoration and addition to the Vermont Statehouse, the adaptive use of historic barns into a new library for Colby Sawyer College, and an adaptation of an historic round barn into the Green Mountain Cultural Center among many others during his 20 year employment with TBP. He also provided on-site construction management services for the 8-month reconstruction of the hurricane-damaged Carambola Beach and Golf Resort in the USVI while a member of TBP.
