Colby Sawyer College Library
Reading loft at Colby Sawyer College Library created from two historic dairy barns in New London, NH
Colby Sawyer College Library is the conversion of two historic barns into a new library for the college. In this photo you can see the stacks in the hay loft of the original barn and a new addition used as reading room to the right, and halfway down to the lower level that housed the cows.
Section showing how the new addition was added to historic dairy barns to create a new library for Colby Sawyer College in New London, NH.
Jay was able to keep the original barn finishes in their new use as a college library by treating the wood with a clear fire retardant and imposing a new roof structure over the original to carry insulation and snow loads required by modern codes. Jay also designed the stack lights seen in this photo.
